How the common features work. If something is missing, ask Shanling — or tell me which entry you need.

Account

Signing in, resetting your password, switching devices

  1. Sign in with email and password. Forgot it? Tap “Forgot password” and reset from the emailed link.
  2. If the email is missing, check spam first. Repeatedly requesting it gets rate-limited, so wait a few minutes.
  3. Google / WeChat sign-in only appears when configured. On a new device just sign in again — your data follows the account.

Watch out

  • Too many wrong passwords triggers rate limiting — reset via “Forgot password” instead.

Gear

Adding a piece of gear

  1. Use “Quick add” at the bottom of the home page: type name, brand, color or size, press Enter.
  2. It also takes photos, pasted screenshots and voice, letting Shanling draft the fields first.
  3. What it produces is a draft: check category, weight and price before saving. Adding from a trip page also puts it in that trip.

Watch out

  • If the item already exists, you will be told so — avoid duplicates.

Filling in a missing weight or photo

  1. Open the gear detail and tap “Complete” in the action bar — Shanling looks up weight, specs and an image.
  2. Results are shown first; nothing is written back until you confirm.
  3. When nothing trustworthy turns up it says so, rather than guessing a number or attaching a wrong photo.

Watch out

  • Your own uploaded photos are never replaced automatically.

Importing Taobao / JD orders in bulk

  1. Settings → Import: install the Chrome extension (download page: /download-extension), then open your Taobao or JD orders page.
  2. The extension filters locally and only uploads orders judged outdoor / sports; the rest never leaves your computer.
  3. Back on the import page, preview, tick what you want and convert in bulk.

Watch out

  • Without the extension the import page stays empty — install it first.
  • Imported rows are drafts; still check category and weight.

Gear packs: saving a bundle as a template

  1. Create a pack under “Gear packs” and put the usual small items in it (toiletries, meds, essentials).
  2. A trip can take the whole pack in one go instead of picking item by item.
  3. Pack weight comes from the weight recorded on the pack; if it is empty, that row shows no weight.

Watch out

  • A pack is a template; adding it to a trip copies it, so editing the pack does not change existing trips.

Trips

Creating a trip and copying the last one

  1. On the “Trips” page, create a trip with name, region and dates.
  2. To repeat the last one: open the old trip, use “More” at the top right → “Duplicate trip”, then rename the copy.
  3. Once you add gear, the weight is calculated for you.

Watch out

  • A duplicate is a separate copy; edits do not touch the original trip.

Marking "worn" and how weight adds up

  1. In the trip detail, tap the marker on a gear row and switch it to “Worn”.
  2. At any moment, at most one per kind: one pair of underwear, socks, trousers, shoes; spares go in the pack. Tops can layer (base + insulation + shell).
  3. Total weight = worn + packed, and that is the basis Shanling uses when analysing.

Watch out

  • Marking every garment as worn skews the numbers; the analysis points it out and asks you to fix it.

Sharing a trip with friends or teammates

  1. Open the trip detail → Share, then pick an expiry: never / 1 hour / 1 day / 7 days / 30 days.
  2. Optionally tick “Password”, set 4 digits, and send the link and code together.
  3. You can revoke it from the same panel at any time; the link dies immediately.

Watch out

  • With a password set, the other side is asked for it — do not send the link alone.
  • Revoking is permanent; generate a new link instead.

Cannot find it?

Just ask Shanling, e.g. “how do I share this trip with my team”.
